Ninth Letter
Editorial, Print, Lettering
The Ninth Letter is a quarterly arts and literary journal published by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. I designed this 4 page spread for Irish author William Wall’s short story, “What Slim Boy Oh Pyrrha,” a heart-wrenching tale of an absurd war and a young man’s decent into madness. I created the design by roughing up the source imagery and using actual mud for some of the hand lettering - visual qualities that are meant to be evocative of a violent battlefield.
This design also appeared in CMYK Magazine No.37 as part of a portfolio dedicated to emerging talent. For more information, please visit: www.cmykmag.com
